School-based screening must be brief, web-based, and minimize false positives. A model that triangulates data sets is a critical step towards stemming the alarming increase in youth distress. Screening is itself an effective MTSS Tier 1 intervention by increasing mental health literacy. Effective screening flags youth before they need more intensive Tier 2 or 3 services and aggregates data to inform the effectiveness of all MTSS interventions.
