The Directing Change Program & Film Contest engages students to learn about the topics of suicide prevention & mental health in an innovative way: a film contest. The program also engages parents and the entire community through What I Wish My Parents Knew events by providing parents with knowledge and skills around mental health-related topics, hand-picked by youth. Films help students develop compassion for challenges others may be facing & show what actions can be taken to help, while parents are engaged in learning events to promote mental health and reduce risk of suicide.
1)    Participants will summarize the Directing Change Program and Film Contest’s objectives of engaging students in an innovative way as change agents and creating peer to peer films to raise awareness about mental health and suicide prevention.
2)    Participants will acquire practical skills to adapt the Directing Change Program and Film Contest to meet the needs of their students, parents, & address mental health and suicide prevention on campuses and in communities.
3)     Participants will apply warning signs and suicide prevention messaging learned through a “mock” “What I Wish My Parents Knew” workshop activity.
4) Participants will apply delivering age-appropriate mental health lessons
