James Wogan leads the Wellness team and school-based Wellness Centers in Acalanes Union High School District in the Bay Area, CA. James was previously the Manager of Student Services in Berkeley Unified School District where he worked for equity and social justice. He also served students as a school administrator with Mt. Diablo Unified School District and in Bayview Hunter’s Point with San Francisco Unified. James’ career in public education has included program development, publications and workshops on equity, child and adolescent health, social and emotional learning (SEL), interagency collaboration, suicide prevention, parenting children with special needs, support for recent immigrant and refugee children, LGBTQ youth, and trauma-informed practices through the lens of equity. During COVID-19, James wrote guidelines for student mental health and crisis response in the event of a psychiatric emergency. James is dedicated to student wellness and the integration of school-based health and behavioral health services to increase access to instruction and student learning.    James graduated from UC Berkeley (MSW, PPSC), School of Social Welfare, and Educational Leadership at CSU - East Bay.    James brings stakeholders from diverse backgrounds to the table and engages openly in conversations about race and privilege.  James lived in Tokyo, Japan where he was a child and family therapist, researcher, and first responder to natural disasters and terrorist attacks. He loves mountain biking and being outdoors with his amazing wife and two teenage boys in the Bay Area, CA.
