Karina Martir is a first generation college graduate who grew up in Southeast Los Angeles after being adopted at over one year of age. Prior to being adopted Karina lived on the streets with her biological mother, was given to the care of others, and finally placed with her parents. After graduating from California State University, Fullerton with a degree in English and Theatre along with a single subject teaching credential, Karina has made it her life's mission to help other underrepresented students find opportunities through formal education. She is now Principal at Melbourne Elementary School a Title I school where students learn early on they deserve and have a right to succeed academically as Melbourne Scholars regardless of their current socioeconomic status or life challenges.
