Lisa Hellwig is currently in her 17th year of teaching seventh grade science at the middle school in St. Helena, CA. With a deep interest in health and wellness, Lisa has served on the Saint Helena Wellness Committee for six years, and is a liaison between the committee and her middle school’s faculty. She continues to be instrumental in developing her school’s wellness program, as well as creating curriculum for its “Family Group” program, which promotes good choices and a positive school climate. In addition, she assisted in designing the school garden and regularly helps maintain it with the students in her science classes and those who participate in the campus Eco Club, where she serves as an advisor. She collaborates with her district’s food service coordinator, growing vegetables in the school garden that supplement the school lunches.
