Alternative Healing LA and Casa de Ama
Creator/Founder of Alternative Healing LA and Casa de Ama
Anaheim Convention Center
An educator, activist and artist for the past 20 years, Annette is a first generation American born daughter of immigrant parents from Mexico and El Salvador that wants everyone to know that they can never be too broken to be loved. She earned a Master’s Degree in Education with a specialization in Bilingual Education from UCLA.  On July 25th, her youngest brother, Gerry, in a psychotic break from reality due to his untreated trauma, PTSD and schizophrenia shot and killed her father and other little brother, Carlos. Her mother was also shot, but survived. Everything she does now is to honor the life of her brothers. After the tragedy, Annette founded AHLA (Alternative Health Los Angeles) an online directory and database of holistic healers of color in the Los Angeles area that serves as a collective resistance to those usually unable to access these services because everyone should have access to safe, affordable, trauma informed and healing centered holistic care, regardless of socio-economic status.  Annette was a featured artist in the Ancestral Lights Exhibition at Self Help Graphics. She created an altar for her brothers that addressed the Stigma that the Latinx, Chicanx, Indigienous and/or Immigrant has regarding mental illness.  Annette uses art as a way to heal and reclaim her joy. She longs to see a world where everyone feels the freedom of safety and love.
