What is a school-based health center? A school-based health center (SBHC) provides age-appropriate clinical health care services on or near a K-12 school campus. SBHCs are (1) located at or near a school or schools, (2) organized through school, community, and health provider relationships, and (3) provide age-appropriate, clinical health care services on-site by qualified health professionals. A school-based health center may provide primary medical care, behavioral health services, or dental care services on-site or through mobile or telehealth.
What does CSHA do? We: • Help schools and communities start SBHCs • Ensure high-quality SBHCs through education and training • Advocate for public policies to support SBHCs • Raise the visibility of SBHCs so they are valued by the public • Support youth engagement and healthy youth development
